WeGarden

What is WeGarden?
WeGarden is a project that I worked on with 4 other students at the University of Pennsylvania's Management and Technology Summer Institute the summer before my senior year. WeGarden is a soil insert that you put in your garden to receive data from your garden. WeGarden collects five data points: sunlight, soil moisture, soil temperature, humidity, and air temperature. WeGarden takes this information into account and then, from an app on your smartphone, you can get planting recommendations, watering reminders, and the opportunity to connect with other gardeners in your area. The goal of WeGarden is to make gardening easier and encourage more people to grow their own produce.
WeGarden Technology
While working on WeGarden, I designed, built, and coded the hardware to the right. WeGarden connects four sensors (soil moisture sensor, soil temperature sensor, DHT sensor, and a photo-resistor) to an Arduino MKR 1000 which sends the data to the cloud. The MKR 1000 uses WiFi to upload data so as long as your WeGarden is connected to WiFi, you can see live garden data from your app.
WeGarden is Patent-Pending!
